About Business Trip Logger and how it works:

The Business Trip Logger App is a cloud-based service that allows you to easily log all your business trips to a website. Each entry stores a client name and reason for the trip, a start odometer reading, trip distance and end odometer reading. A list of all trips can then be downloaded as a .CSV file and submitted with your tax returns. The app requires registration in order to facilitate cloud services, multiple phone use and remote data storage.

  1. Download the “Business Trip Logger” here or search for “Business Trip Logger” in the app store and install the app.
  2. As this is a cloud based app you are required to register on the website. This can be done directly from your phone – a browser will launch from the app. All that is required is your email address and a password (the phone id is sent to the website). Registration is necessary in order for incoming messages (trips) to be allocated to your account and so you can download your CSV file from the website to submit to SARS/National Revenue Service. Local storage on the phone is not an option because the system allows for more than one phone per account, additionally if your phone is lost or stolen your trip data is still safely stored in the cloud.
  3. Start logging all your trips. SARS require:
    • Client name
    • Reason for trip
    • Start odometer reading
    • End odometer reading
  4. ‘Client Names’ and ‘Reason for Trip’ are stored for easy selection on repeat trips. You can also delete and edit these in the traditional iPhone fashion or on the website.
  5. The end odometer reading must be greater than the start odometer reading.
  6. The app will expect you to close (end) each trip started.
  7. You can add and edit trips on the website.
